The Biggest Flaws

The single biggest flaw with the Career Agents Model is the “Agent” Model. While you will be told that acting as an agent for a candidate will lead to prosperity, the basic premise is erroneous. You might be taught to recite scripts that espouse being a candidate’s “agent” like athletes and entertainment figures have an agent; however, the difference is that your candidate will, at best provide a revenue for you once.  There aren’t endorsement deals to sign. There aren’t residuals or personal appearances. You aren’t taking a 10% commission on what they earn year-in and year-out. It is, for the best part, a one-shot deal and the only people making the real money at Health Career Agents / Career Agents Network are those that have the contracts with the facilities and those are very few and far between.

Candidates are being recruited by dozens of other agencies every month and if you don’t have the jobs to fill someone else does.  Clients, if they are responsive at all, are looking for you to find that “needle in a haystack” for them and want to pay you the bare minimum required to do it. In many cases, they will want to pay you a flat-fee or a very low percentage for a job in a rural or unfavorable area. Additionally, many clients are now using Bounty Jobs to find qualified candidates, where you’ll be among a pool of several hundred other recruiting companies vying for the attention of a client that throws a job out there at a low commission level and finds the starving recruiters that will partner up cheap. Remember too that there is a guarantee period of anywhere from 30 days to 6 months and if your candidate quits or is fired for cause you will need to replace them free of charge, on a pro-rated basis, or refund the fee.

Late last year there was ONE person out of more than 1,000 that comprised almost 50% of the candidate listings on the Global Database of Health Career Agents / Career Agents Network.

In August of 2009 I sent out an email regarding a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) candidate that we represented to everyone listed in the membership directory.  There were a total of 1,031 emails transmitted and 226 of them immediately failed (Recipient Unknown or Undeliverable), 729 apparently fell into the abyss of the internet (No Read Receipt), and a mere 76 were actually received, reviewed, and acknowledged by someone with a read receipt. Of those 76 read receipts, there was only one person that inquired and they apparently didn’t know the difference between a candidate and a client because their reply was regarding “having a possible candidate for you” when my email was about a candidate that was available. So a quick recap of the numbers:

1,031 Email Addresses (100%)

226 Immediate Failures (21.92%)

729 Without Delivery Receipt (70.71%)

76 With Delivery Receipt (7.37%)

1 Of the Delivery Receipts with a confused reply

0 Communication of value
